How Salary Conversion Works

Converting between pay frequencies is a matter of dividing or multiplying by the number of pay periods in a year. An annual salary divided by 12 gives the monthly equivalent. Divided by 52, it gives the weekly equivalent. To find an hourly rate, divide the annual salary by the total number of hours worked in a year — typically 2,080 hours for a standard 40-hour week.

Conversion Formulas

Monthly = Annual ÷ 12

Bi-Weekly = Annual ÷ 26

Weekly = Annual ÷ 52

Daily = Annual ÷ 260 (5-day weeks)

Hourly = Annual ÷ (Weekly Hours × 52)

Annual (from hourly) = Hourly × Weekly Hours × 52

For example: a $12,00,000 annual salary converts to $1,00,000 per month, roughly $23,077 per week, $4,615 per day, and approximately $577 per hour at 40 hours/week.
